It has been announced that Middlesbrough, the town I spent my first 20 years in, has been voted the worst place to live in the UK. Even Middlesbroughs most famous resident, Captain Cook, spent most of his life getting as far away from the place as possible. But it's no surprise to me as Middlesbrough is a very easy target. Editing footage of litter and boarded up houses can make anywhere look bad, every town in the UK have the same problems, just on differing scales.
Last year, The London Borough of Hackney topped the worst place list, The borough I live in now, but a lot can happen in a year, it is currently the UK's 12th worst place to live.
Also, for the last two years in a row, Hull has been voted the 2nd worst place to live – the place I lived for three years earning my degree.
So all in all (apart from 4 months living in Reading) according to the makers of Location, Location, Location ... I've lived in the worst places in the UK for a total of 34 years! And the thing is, I've never had any problems in any of the places mentioned and I've loved every bit of it.
But it's not all bad news, at least Middlesbrough features on the new Monopoly board, the Here and Now UK edition. It is one of the 22 towns and cities from around the British Isles featured on the board. But it ain't Mayfair that's for sure, it's the third worst place on the board.
